Prof. Dr. Adel El-Beltagy is currently Chair of the International Dryland Development Commission (IDDC), Professor, Arid Land Agricultural Graduate Studies & Research Institute (ALARI), Ain Shams University, Egypt, Chair of the Food and Agriculture Research Council at the Egyptian Academy of Science &Technology, President of the Agriculture Committee of the Supreme Council of universities, Egypt. Member of the Advisory Board of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Board member of the Regional Action for Climate Change (RACC), Science and Technology in Society forum (STS), Kyoto, Japan (2010-till now).

He has served as President of the Governing Board of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) (2010-2015), Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (2014-2015), Member of the Board of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2006-2012), Chair of the BA Executive Board (2015-2018). Member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) (2014-2018). Agriculture Development Programs and Human Resource Empowerment:

-     Chair of the team for developing North Sinai Reclamation Project with the World Bank. This effort produced 18 volume study on land use for 400,000 Feddan. (Funding requirement 1.45 billion L.E./250 million US$) (1988-1991).

-     Acted as focal point between the sector of Agric., and Land Reclamation and Int'l organizations (i.e., FAO, WB, WFP/WFC and IFAD) (1988-1991).

-     Coordinated training& scholarship programs in different Agric. domains for Africa, Asia, Latin America & the Arab World participants (approx., 650 trainees/year) (1988-1991).

-     Through the NARP project funded by USAID, ARDF and EU, more than 90 PhD, 250 MSc., and more than 2150 scientific visitation to the USA & Europe (1991-1995)

  • •    2014, Commander of the Order of Agricultural Merit, in recognition to his efforts in the International Agriculture Development, particularly in the Mediterranean countries, Government of France.
